Savings come from multiple areas

Hybrid mail delivers very high physical savings by reducing or eliminating the need for:

- Stamps and franking
- Stationery, paper and envelopes
- Toner and ink
- Click charges from MPS provider
- Large printer fleet
- Franking machines and consumables

At the same time, you are able to realise further savings:

- Reducing or eliminating DNAs
- By increasing digital communication through WhatsApp and SMS
- By reclaiming VAT

Reduce DNAs and save

DNAs (Did Not Attend) are reported to cost the NHS over £200 billion a year, so it is an important challenge for trusts to keep this rate as low as possible.

The average DNA rate was recorded as 8.8% with each missed appointment costing the NHS an average of £154. NHS organisations that have migrated to hybrid mail have seen an 80% reduction of DNA rate to 1.76%.

Our calculation shows how easy it is to make huge savings just by reducing your DNA rate:

Cost saving example of a trust with 100,000 outpatient appointments per annum, with an associated cost of £154 per appointment:

100,000 (outpatient appointments) x
7.04% (DNA reduction)
x
£154 (cost per appointment)
=
£1,084,160 cost saving

North East London case study shows massive savings are possible

North East London NHS Foundation Trust asked us to implement our hybrid mail solution in an effort to eliminate physical letters, where possible, in favour of an email, SMS or WhatsApp-based communication solution.

Their desired objective was to reduce operational overheads, to improve the patient journey and reduce administration costs.

Read on to see how we managed to deliver a massive 64% saving to the Trust.

Saving time and money

Time saving and efficiencies are harder to quantify in terms of cost, but ultimately time saving results in porters spending more time caring for patients as they are not collecting mail, franking, filling postal sacks and supporting the Royal Mail collections.

In some medical environments, clinical staff are burdened with printing and posting letters due to staff shortages.

To put these soft costs into perspective: after a recent exercise we found that for every 1,000,000 pieces
of post – there were £56,658 worth of staffing costs associated with porters and post room staff.

Commit to a sustainable future

As you can see, implementing a hybrid mail - and in particular a digital mail - solution can have a huge impact on an organisation’s sustainability goals, amongst many other benefits.

We are committing to a sustainable future by making four main pledges.

See our sustainability page to learn more about our environmental values and our CO2 offsetting plan.
